Hi There! My name is Heather G. and I am a visual effects artist, fiber artist and aspiring long arm quilter! I sew with a group of grans from my guild called the Lunch Bunch on Tuesdays at the senior center and one of them has taken me under her wing as a long arm quilting apprentice. Like many of the sewing grans she has a lot of sewing machines and has a long arm that she is willing to sell to me at a fraction of the price! That fraction…is $5k. That’s the big goal. The smaller goal is $500 which she is willing to accept in exchange for her mom’s vintage sewing machine and cabinet which has sit stand capabilities. Her mom was a quilter who like me had rheumatoid arthritis and I immediately felt a connection to her story. I am on my journey to starting my own long arm quilting business, a journey that the universe practically yeeted me into when the VFX industry collapsed last year. It hasn’t been easy but dangit if it hasn’t been fun to reconnect with my creativity in such a tangible way. Every day that I have been able hang out, sew and learn from the quilt grans has been a blessing. Thanks you so much for your support as I venture into this new and exciting world!
